Hair Art

I have become obsessed with the trend for hair pieces. Which is funny because a few days ago, my sister posted about making my niece some cute little clips for her hair. It seems to be the craze and what a fun one it is! So here is a fun and interesting "How-To" making a special hair piece with things laying around the house!

I started with some felt, I quickly sketched some flower petals. Nothing to fancy, plus when you flip them over the ugly black marks won't be seen.

After drawing and cutting the petals out, I picked out a button. Sorry for the fuzzy picture.

Next, begin stitching the flower in, but I also used some hot glue to reinforce the button and keep the petals secure. Beware of hot glue! Ouch!

Voila!!

After finishing the flowers I cut out two other pieces of felt to put behind them, the flowers need something to support them since the headband is so thin. I like to use different patterns and colors for the "support" felt, I think it gives it something a little extra!

Taa Daa!! Then just repeat with the second heart.

Finish product! Hooray!

Here are some extra of the extra things I have made in the past, the feathers are my favorite! Hope you enjoy and I am thinking of making these for sale, so if you would like me to make you one please email me! Have a good day!

Mom...

I know I have been a terrible blogger the past couple of weeks, but this week I am making an extreme effort to change my ways! I have been so crazy busy, that I have had no time to blog about anything, but J and I are going to begin doing some DIY projects pretty soon and I can't wait to post on those! HOORAY! Ok. So. Today's is totally about my mom...Today is my mom's bday! She is too funny, I think my mom is like a cartoon character, she always seems to find ways to make me laugh. From cookey stories about her job to her random comments that don't have anything to do with our conversation, she's great. What is even funnier is slowly....but surely I am becoming my mother. For example, yesterday J and I had our first meeting with Kevin, J's pastor who is counseling us before we marry. We spent A LOT of time discussing our parents and we had to describe our parents and each other's parents. This is what J wrote about my mom:

"Goofy, Joyous, Funny, a little spacey."

I absolutely died. I was like I feel like I am my mother made over completely. Which I guess...I am. I love you Mom! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

We love you mom! Oh and...GO JV CRUSADERS!

Glass "How-To"!

Whose excited for Labor Day weekend?! This will be such a fun weekend! A new book to read, some fun crafts, and hopefully good weather! This is a late night "How-To" on etching glass. It is a fun way to spruce up jars, mugs, plates, serving dishes...just about anything that is glass and it comes in a bottle so it's super easy!

Step 1: Pick out stickers in the font you want, then apply to the glass. I picked some stickers I had left over from my wedding book. Whoo hoo! Saving money!

Next, tape off margins for glass etch. This makes it easier to make a perfect shape.

This is the Glass Etch product I chose to use, "Armour Etch" and a paint brush I had.

After applying the margins begin adding generous amounts of the etch. I suggest 3 coats, I am so used to saying that because I say it all the time at my job, "3 coats gives it the most professional look" ha!

Let the etch sit for 5 to 10 minutes, this allows for the etch to really take to the glass.

Rinse. Excuse the chipped manicure.

After rinsing begin to peel away tape and stickers, slowly. Also, I found using a Q-Tip to clean the letters really helped making the result POP!

TA DA!!! I know...I know...this picture is awful! You can barley see the etch, but this is the best one I could get, my camera is not very high quality. But, I promise, it looks good from where I'm sitting.

Have a great weekend everyone and if you have time to etch please let me know! I would love to learn how your experience went and any tips you might have! Until next time! Have a good one!

Labor day

First of all, the weather was simply wonderful outside today! I enjoyed every second of it. I began my day with a little gift that Josh left behind for me...two full bags of peppermint tea. I love hot tea with toast in the morning and J bought me a huge supply from one of my favorite coffee shops "Somethings Brewing". I can't even tell you how wonderful it is to have a hot cup of peppermint tea in the morning, it's dreamy. Thank you Josh!
J and I are beginning to make plans for our house, we are both big DIYers and enjoy the idea of making and renovating most of our home decor. But, if there is anything we want to buy it is a comfy couch! I am partial to sectionals and I think J is kind of a "whatever as long as it's comfortable" type of guy. Therefore we are constantly on the search for a clean, well-taken care of, sectional! Let me know if you hear of anything, we would really appreciate it!
But, our first big project will be making our headboard! I can't wait to begin, hopefully we will start the next time J is in town. I'll post pictures when we have completed the project, I can't wait to start....I'M SO EXCITED!
Well as you guys all know Labor Day weekend is THIS weekend! This means time for painting, reading, and getting some creative ideas flowing for casa de J and K ( I hope that's right, I took French, not Spanish.) I hope to sit in Barnes and Noble after a day by the river and soak in all things DIY and Home Improvement, if there is anything I love it's turning something old and yucky into something new and pretty...or in our case gender neutral. I plan to attend the following stores this weekend: 1. Goodwill 2. Savers 3. Half of Half 4. Barnes and Noble 5. Target.
Hooray! Lots of fun! Nothing like a day off of school to get plans in order to begin a new home, can't wait!
Here is song that has been playing on my iPod constantly lately, have a good one! Oh! And thanks to everyone for the sweet and kind words about our engagement pics, we are so excited about them!
